What is Tense? (English Grammar Notes)

Tense
Word “Tense” is  taken from Latin word “Tempus” which means “time”. To understand tense properly you should  first understand “verb” what is a verb? verb is an action that we do in our daily lives ,it is referred verb in Grammar, i.e. what we do in our daily routine of lives it called an action (verb). Such as i take exercise in early morning. In this example word “take” is a verb because it is denoting an action. Verb is an action word is a proper definition of verb but it is not complete or compact definition of a verb , look at this example i am student, here in this sentence what you observed? You observed that the sentence is showing  the state of being, as we know that am is also a verb it is a linking or auxiliary verb  because it is telling us state of being. So the compact definition of verb is that “ verb is a word that  expresses an action and state of being". As we got that tense is a form of verb that tells us time and state of an action. Tense i.e. Time is divided into three parts Present time, Past time & Future time.
PRESENT TIME :- The time that is running/continuing/happening now is called present time. Such as I am writing a book.
PAST TIME :- The time that is passed. Such as I wrote a book.
FUTURE TIME:- The time that will come. Such as I shall write a book.
